May 2008 Prayer Letter

Dear Family and Friends, May 2008

In our last prayer letter we told you about our decision to return to Africa to oversee the construction of a Bible School called the Rwanda Faculty of Evangelical Theology (FATER), and how our faith was stretched just by making the decision. The more we learn about Rwanda the more we see the great need for additional pastors, especially since the 1994 genocide. Africa Inland Mission’s goal is to establish maturing churches through the evangelization of unreached peoples, and through the effective preparation of church leaders. Our involvement at FATER will help AIM realize that goal.

Once again our faith is being tested as we take the first steps of going to Rwanda. AIM has told us that we need to raise $15,400 in “Outgoing” expenses for things like plane tickets, setting up house in Rwanda, physicals, Rwandan visas, etc. We also need to raise $18,300 for our vehicle project (tax included) and about $950 in additional monthly support.

Lisa recently “rediscovered” this quote which she had long ago tucked into her Bible:

Faith is not the confidence that God will do for you what you want Him to do for you… It is the conviction that you can do what He wants you to do for Him and let Him take care of the consequences. Faith is not the means of avoiding pain, suffering and danger. It is the basis upon which we can endure, understand and fight against the evil that causes pain and suffering.
- Ralph Winter, founder of U.S. Center for World Missions

We covet your prayers as we move ahead with these steps of faith.
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews1:1
